Latin Roots: fract-, ject-, mal-, vid-/vis-, spect-, struct-, voc-

Roots and Definitions:

fract-: to break
ject-: throw mal-: bad vid-/vis-: to see spect-: to look

struct-: to build
voc-: voice; to call

Extension Activity:

Understanding Word Parts and Navigating a Dictionary

Use a dictionary to find

words using each root, and make a list of them (seven total).

Include each words

definition and explain where you see the roots meaning in their definitions.

Extension Activity:

Using Word Inferences to Create Tone and Establish Voice

Use the basic setting of a backyard baseball game to create a short story with a small group. Follow the requirements listed below:
You must think of a theme and use it to establish a tone.

Use your characters interactions to develop that theme.


Use your writing voice and incorporate all seven roots somewhere in your story, underlining each along the way; include context clues as you use them. The length is up to you, but you need to follow the basics of the short story plot diagram.
