rigid 10 L vessel initially contains a mixture of liquid water and vapour at 100C with 12.3 percent quality.

The mixture is then heated until its temperature is 150C. Calculate the heat transfer required for this purpose. Ans given: 46.9kJ This is what I did. A rigid vessel, means that no change in volume. V1 = V2 = 0.01 m^3 From table A-4, we get uf and ufg to find u1. u1 = uf + x(ufg) u1 = 419.06 + (0.123)(2087.0) = 747.761 kJ/kg

Since the volume is constant, that's mean the quality, x also constant, right? Refering to p-v diagram, vertical line. Then from table A4, I get the value of uf and ufg at 150C. Find u2. u2 = 631.66 + (0.123)(1927.4) = 868.73 kJ/kg v1 = 0.001043 + (0.123)(0.16720 - 0.001043) = 0.2066

m^3/kg V1 = v1 x m m = V1 / v1 = 0.01 / 0.2066 = 0.0484 kg Q = m(u2 - u1) (since the volume is constant) Q = 0.0484 x (868.73 - 747.761) Q = 5.84 kJ
