Causes: Creoles were upset that they didnt have the same freedoms as the Penninsulares.

They didnt like being considered second class just because they were born in Latin America. The Mestizos and Mulattos wanted the same opportunities as the whites were given. A priest named Father Miguel Hidalgo sparked rage throughout the nation.

Outcome of the Revolution of Mexico: Mexico was free of Spanish rule, but many of the lives didnt change even after. The military leaders took control of the government with guns and ruled with the force of arms. Spanish ruled lands in Central America soon declared Independence in the early 1820s. After the overthrow of Iturbide, the local leaders set up a republic called the United Provinces of Central America. The union was short lived and was soon cut up into different parts which separated republics of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. These new nations face many social and economical problems.

EVENTS: slave revolt in Haiti frightened the creoles in LA. Creole priest in Mexico, Hidalgo raised a cry for freedom. wanted to ragain land the Spaniards took 300 years ago. Had a ragged army of mestizos and indians, they had short lived successes and then Hidalgo was killed and his followers scattered. Sept. 28 1810 was the siege of Guamajuato where Hidalgo and his men massacred a spanish mining city. Jose Morelos led anotrebellion and led his forces for 4 years attacking the spaniards then he was killed. The king of span issued a constitution, the people feared reforms in the colonies. later Iturbide joined the creoles, they overthre the spanish viceroy. AFter that liberal mexicans over threw him to form a republic. They gained independence on January 1 1821.
