Mexican Revolution
Miguel Hidalgo known for leading the
mexican revolution was also known as
the father of mexican independence.
Miguel hidalgo was a catholic priest
before being a revolutionary. In
addition to his parish responsibilities,
Father Hidalgo learned languages,
planted vineyards and olive groves, and
started a pottery factory.
Miguel Hidalgo wished to achieve two things which
were the redistribution of land and racial equality.In
order for Miguel Hidalgo to achieve this there would
have to be and end to spanish rule. The revolution
was mainly caused by Porfirio Diaz's economic
policies, unfair land distribution, deep-seated
economic inequality, and undemocratic institutions.
Miguel Hidalgo rang the church bell at dolores on
September 16,1810,to summon his parishioners to
an announcement of revolt against the spanish.
Miguel Hidalgo made a speech known as the Grito
de Dolores. It wasn’t just a call for revolt but a cry
for land redistribution and racial equality.
Thousands of Indians, mestizos, patriots and parish
priests joined and supported for there to be and
end to spanish rule. Ignacio allende was a captain
of the spanish army who helped miguel hidalgo
once the war of independence broke out.
Miguel Hidalgo marched Under
the flag of Our Lady of
Guadalupe. Hidalgo and his
followers captured major cities
like Guanajuato, in short time
they were in the capital. Hidalgo
hang back and he lost some of
his followers. After losing many
people the rebellion takes place
in the capital gates, he loses
the war and tries to escape, but
gets captured in march 21st
and killed on July 30, 1811.
