VERTICAL MOTION

Hamad kicks a football vertically upward and the ball traces a path of an inverted parabola. (Height in meter and time in second) After t seconds its height above the ground is given by
a)

After how many seconds will the ball touches the ground

The question asks us to find when the ball touches the ground that mean when the height will be zero. S (t) = 0 = 60t-16t2 Now we can solve for t using quadratic formula (which is the time the ball touches the ground). 0 = (4T-15) (4T) T= 3.75 second or T= 0 second We know that time is zero for the started point (before kicking). Therefore, the answer is t = 3.75 s

b)

Discuss the specialty about the time

In the question It given that t=15/8 or t=1.875 second The question ask us what is specialty of this time that mean it that time how much the height because we have a relationship between height and time in this given equation S(t) = 60t-16t2 Now we can easily find the height after 1.875 second by replacing 1.875 with t s(1.875) = 60(1.875)-16(1.875)2 = 56.25 Therefore, the when Hamad kicked the ball after 1.875 second the height will be 56.25 meter. In addition, It also tell us that after 1.875 second the height will be in the top (maximum height) because always the middle time is the top because we find that 3.75 is the total time 3.75/2 = 1.875 in this time the maximum height occur.

c)

Find the maximum height attained by the ball.

We already find it by chance but let us solve it In middle time is the top height occur S(t) = 60t-16t2 S(3.75/2) = 60(1.875)-16(1.875)2 = 56.25 Therefore, the maximum height is 56.25 meter

d)

Find the instantaneous velocity at t = 1 second

Find the derivative of the height first Given that S' = 60 32t Let find s'(1) = 60 32(1) = 28 Therefore, the instantaneous velocity at t = 1 is 28 meter/second
