The 3rd MAJOR characteristic of effective teachers is: They know how to design lessons to help students reach mastery. Increase Student Learning and Achievement Research shows: The person who does the work is the ONLY one who learns. If you increase the amount of time the student is working, you increase learning.

Get Your Students to Do Their Assignments and Pass Tests o Key Idea: The greater the structure of a lesson and more precise the directions on what is to be accomplished, the higher achievement rate o Objectives are the basis for assignments and tests. Get Students to Work Together o Key idea- the greater the time students work together and the greater the responsibilities students take for their work, the greater the learning. Achieve Happiness and Success as a Teacher o Choose to be a leader Be ambitious. Set goals. Strive for excellence. Have a strong self-efficacy. Reflect, assess, evaluate, and improve.

Be a Professional Educator o The rewards go to those who continue to learn. Invest in yourself. Promote student growth. Make good use of instructional time. Collaborate with other professionals. Stay informed. Try 2 to 3 new ideas or techniques each year.
