Nino Fetalvo Interview questions for TSL 1.

) What are some beliefs and values that your culture stays true to? Family, Catholic values, hard work, hospitality. Family is huge in your culture especially for the holidays. Every year for Christmas everyone in our family meets at our house to exchange gifts and to celebrate the holiday. Also we never miss church on Sundays. The catholic religion is something my family and many other Filipino familys stays true to. Hard work is another value that we carry out. Im a student at Washington University and my sister is in the honors program at the University of Southern Florida. Our parents instilled great morals within us growing up, and this isnt just for my family this is for the majority of all Filipinos. 2.) When around the same culture do you greet them differently than you would an American culture? No generally all Filipinos great each other the same, it doesnt matter on the cultural background of the other person. The only difference I would say is that if two Filipinos are aware that they both speak the common language tagalo they will greet each other in that language. 3.) What holidays are big in your culture? Christmas and Easter are by far the biggest holidays in our culture. Christmas and Easter is a time when everyone gets together to celebrate our religion as well as celebrate the day when Santa and the Easter bunny visits. Filipinos base a lot of what we do around be a catholic. 4.) What are some common traditions? Well besides having family dinners every night we do something around the holidays which is a little different from some other cultures. We go out and hunt for our own pig, which we call lechon. The pig we hunt for is killed and is cooked all day, and when it is finally cooked it is placed on the center of the table. We dont cut the pig up into different pieces; we leave it as a full pig on the table, with the snot and face included. 5.) Does your culture value education? Yes like I said before that is something our culture strives on. Not only that but hard work is what our culture values. We believe that if you put hard work into anything, that the end result is all worth it. I have just applied for law school and will continue to carry out my dream.
