Create 1/2 inch grids first on your photograph Create 1 inch grids on your drawing paper. The best way to get even grids on both the drawing and photocopy is to measure on both sides and make small marks at each increment.

Then line your ruler up to each side and draw your grids. It is important to draw your grids dark on the photo . You may use a colored pencil to make the lines stand out more.

DRAW YOUR GRIDS LIGHTLY ON THE DRAWING PAPER, HOWEVER, BECAUSE WE WILL EVENTUALLY ERASE THESE GUIDELINES.

When you have created grids on both the drawing paper and photo, you may begin drawing.

Create a contour line drawing mapping out what you see in each box. Remember to carefully look at all of the details . Look for shapes.

10. Work with your photo and your drawing upside down. 11.

Some students find more success if they fold the photo to reveal only one line of boxes at a time. Remember to make sure you are working in the correct box or the proportions will be off.
