The Confederacy believed that Cotton would support them. They could make it independently. Tried to used King Cotton to persuade France and Britain into helping them in their war efforts Britain and France saw the Confederacy as a rebellion. As two countries who ruled by monarchy, this was not acceptable.

Why did the production of Cotton increase so much just prior to the Civil War? Why did the South think they could live independently of the Union? Why did the South believe that they needed slavery so badly? What was the Alabama Platform and the Fire-Eaters pushing for?
