UNDISTURBED SOIL SAMPLING, LABELLING & STORAGE I. INTRODUCTION 3. Determine and record the mass of an empty, clean, and dry metal dish (Mc) 4. Place the moist soil samples in different dishes. Determine and record the mass of the dishes (now containing the moist soil) (Mcms).

The determination of watercontent is an important requirement in laboratory tests and is part of the test included in more elaborate tests. Water content is an important measure in the compaction of soil. In order to obtain the correct water content, several samples at different point should be taken; the samples to be used are from experiment 1A. II. OBJECTIVES To determine the moisture content of the soil samples. MATERIALS/APPARATUSES IV. Drying oven Balance Metal dish Gloves Knife, wire saw or spatula Soil scraper METHODOLOGY wax from the

DATA ANALYSIS

Given: MC = 16 g MCMS = 230 g MCDS = 190 g 2. Shape the samples into either a cube 3x3x3in or a cylinder with a diameter of 3in and a height of at least 2in. MT = MCMS - MC = 230 g - 16 g MT = 214 g Ms = MCDS - MC = 190 g - 16 g Ms = 174 g Mw = MT Ms = 214 g - 174 g Mw = 40 g W = (Mw / Ms) x 100%

UNDISTURBED SOIL SAMPLING, LABELLING & STORAGE = (40 g / 174 g) x 100% W = 22.99% SOIL SAMPLE 2 Given: MC = 17 g MCMS = 428 g MCDS = 345 g MT = MCMS - MC = 428 g - 17 g MT = 411 g Ms = MCDS - MC = 345 g - 17 g Ms = 328 g Mw = MT Ms = 411 g - 328 g Mw = 83 g W = (Mw / Ms) x 100% = (83 g / 328 g) x 100% W = 25.30%

CONCLUSION

The experiment was very simple, it did not require as much precision and caution compared to the extraction process, obtaining the water content is simple, since you only have to shape the sample, weigh it, dry it and weigh it again. VIII. REFERENCES
