QUESTION

Do dark colors absorb more heat than light colors?

HYPOTHESIS
Ice cubes covered in darkcolored fabric will melt more quickly than ice cubes covered in light-colored fabric.

MATERIALS
A pair of scissors. Several fabric samples, at least 6 inches (15 cm) square, of different colors. (have at least two light-colored ones, such as white and yellow, and two darkcolored ones, such as red and black) 1 ice cube for each fabric sample. A food scale. A cookie sheet.

PROCEDURE
1. Using the scissors, cut the fabric samples so that they are just slightly larger than the tops of the ice cubes. 2. Weigh the ice cubes to make sure they are all roughly the same size. Record the weights. 3. Place the cookie sheet in direct sunlight. 4. Arrange the ice cubes on the cookie sheet. 5. Cover each ice cube with its own fabric sample. 6. After fifteen minutes, weigh each ice cube again.
