Fillet Welding

Description Fillet welding is a type of joint used for welding pieces or plates in which the angle between them varies from 0 (zero) to 180 degrees.

Aplication Fields This type of joint is used mainly to produce corner, T and overlap joints. Is estimated that around 80% of all joints made by electric arc welding are from this type.

Quality Although this is a very common procedure, theres a number of parameters to which are necessary to take in special attention before doing such a welding, because among others, it requires a higher heat transfer rate when compared to other types of joints to an equivalent thickness, and with less experience welders, this could take to the lack of penetration and/or fusion defects that are not easily identifiable through visual inspection or other non-destructive techniques, or even excessive welding which will lead to extra spending of consumable materials, even without achieving a higher global resistance. Fillet Welding details: Consultation of standards such as EN ISO 9692 series, EN 1708 series, EN 1011, will give you a very good hints about fillet welding details and precautions to have.
