From Wal-Mart to a Local Farmers Market Photo Essay by Taylor Neilly

Note: All photographs were taken at Wal-Mart Supercenter Store of 1800 NE 12th Ave., Gainesville, FL 32641, and the Farmers Market of Haile Plantation Village. Photographs taken at Wal-Mart were taken using a camera phone, while photographs from the market were shot using a Nikon D90.

A family enters the Haile Village Farmers Market of Gainesville, FL. The market features local products and produce, and convenes every Saturday from 8:30 am until noon.

Entrance of Wal-Mart Supercenter, located at 1800 NE 12th Ave, Gainesville, FL. The store is open 24 a every day.

Assorted breads featured at the Haile Farmers Market from Vine Bread and Pasta of Gainesville, FL. According to their website, Vine only uses Central Milling organic flours, filtered water, and pure Himalayan sea salt in their breads and pastas.

Assorted baked sweets from Little Debbie of the McKee Foods Corporation, whose headquarters are located in Collegedale, TN.

At the end of the day a lone bag of assorted lettuce from Rosies Organic Farm of Gainesville, FL is left at the Haile Village farmers market.

A single box of Twinkies, a sweet cake-like snack from Hostess Brands, remains on a shelf in the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Vegetables of Swallowtail Farm. According to the farmer, all produce is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides and is harvested the same day it is sold at the market.
