Target Age Group: 3-5 Theme: Shapes Title of Activity: Sponge Shapes Curricular Area: Literacy Center Date to Use Activity: December 10th - 12th Developmental Goals Physical Development- Fine Motor Skills: Writing their name on their paper, putting the sponge in the paint and dabbing it on the paper. Social Development-Sharing with their friends. Cognitive Development-Learning shapes. Learning Objectives Given a sponge, paint and construction paper, the children will dab shapes on their paper with paint. Materials Required Newspaper, smocks, different shapes of sponges, green paint,red construction paper, soap, paint container and pencils.

Motivation/Introduction: "It's your turn to come make shapes with me!"

Procedure: I will have newspaper laid on the table with the red construction paper out. I will then mix green paint with some soap and set that on the table as well with the different shapes of sponges. The children will put on a smock and then write their name on the back of their paper. They will then dip their sponge in the green paint. The children will identify the shape they made and then grab a different sponge. I will put them on the drying rack when they are finished.
