Allen Huddleston Song paper Gilbert 2 March 2013 Misty Mountains Cold Composer Howard Shore returns to score the music for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He uses the London Philharmonic Orchestra which was the same Orchestra he used in The Lord of the Rings. He uses the encyclopedic network of leitmotifs, dozens of themes that represented cultures, charters, objects, and dramatic concepts in Middles-Earth. I have read all of Tolkiens books including The Hobbit in my twenties. Tolkiens deep love of nature and all things green resonates deeply with me, says Shore. J.R.R. Tolkien (the writer) was born on January 3rd 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Tolkien settled in England as a child. He was a scholar and a writer. While teaching at Oxford University he published the popular fantasy novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Tolkien had four kids and retired in 1958. His wife died in 1971 and he died on September 2nd 1973 at 81. The history of this song is from the Dwarves. Long ago Erebor was a place of great power and wealth. Erebor was ruled by Thror, King Under the Mountain and grandfather to Thorin Oakenshild. Thror most cherished treasure was the Arkenstone, a luminous white gem. Smaug the fire breathing dragon from the north attacked Erebor and took the golden hoard for

himself. The Dwarves of Erebor were forced to wonder the wilderness. There once might race was no more. Thorin has taking it upon himself to reclaim his lost home of Erebor. Thorin moves by with bitter steps, resolve is painted with a sense of longing and melancholy. Thorins theme expresses grim determination and the soul of someone who cannot forgive or forget. Though he nest hope in his theme when he meets the newest member the burglar also known as Bilbo Baggins. There impossible feet of defeating Smaug and reclaiming Erebor do not seem to be in vain. Shore uses a solo French horn melody that passes through A minor and G major. Low brass, divisi celli, and basses deliberately alternate between the major and minor iterations of the same polishing cords. Actors Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakinshield) and the dwarf cast sing a chopped version of Misty Mountains Cold. The Misty Mountains Cold to me is a fabulous song. J.R.R. Tolkien did not have a name for the song on page 14-15 of The Hobbit. So many people call it the Dwarves Song. I feel that I can relate to this; a great peace of work with no title. The words are simple to me I have to always concur obstacles and go down roads I do not want to go down. This requires me to reach deep down in my soul and face my demons. I try to stay silent and calm like the silent wind in the night. Like the burning pines I will just grow back stronger. At the end of my great journey I will claim my long forgotten gold. In closing, I have learned that everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you are claiming it". I do not know where the quote it comes from.
