Platinum (Pt) is a very valuable metal element because is doesn't rust easily. This is due to a very special atomic structure that resists Oxidation. That is the reaction with Oxygen in the environment which cause the break down of most metals. Pt also will not tarnish it has a high melting point 1700+ degree C. Pt has the ability to transfer electricity with great efficiency but isn't used for this purpose due to it high cost. Other less expensive metals fill this role. Although Pt has a high melting point it is highly prized in jewelry due high luster and it ability to resist corrosion.
