Summative Assessment

Who We Are People are Inspired by the Lives of Others 5th Grade Spanish Seora Kim McMahan
Following is an example of what the students will see for their summative assessment/final project for the transdisciplinary theme Who We Are. The task from the Unit Plan is listed below. The summative assessment task will be for students to create a presentation (poster with commentary, PowerPoint, Prezi, or interview) that showcases a Hispanic person by whom the student is inspired. A rubric will be used to assess the student work. Evidence will include fluency in the Spanish language, inclusion of the items expressed in the rubric (name, age, birthday, physical description, place of origin, profession, and why they are inspired by that Hispanic individual, using the IB Attitudes or Learner Profile vocabulary), and visual presentation of the poster, PowerPoint, etc.

Possible student action could include actually interviewing a Hispanic person and/or bringing that person into class for the presentation.

*5th Grade students have Spanish class all in the target language for 30 minutes twice a week (one hour per week total). The main goal of the curriculum is to get the kids communicating in Spanish. Before this time, the kids would already be familiar with how to ask personal questions in Spanish, as well as describe a person physically. This first year, the IB Attitudes and Learner Profile would be embedded as new vocabulary to use in describing people, and would be used when describing a Hispanic inspiration.
