A CROWDED HOUSE

Child: Paskelle Owen Date: October 2013 Written by: Teacher Ursula
Paskelle, it is a pleasure to see your playfulness. When you come to An-nur you go straight to either the dolls corner or the playhouse outside, caring for the dolls and cooking meals with cones, sticks, leaves and other material you can find. Last week I noticed your friendly social nature when you invited friends to join your play. And when you found that the playhouse was getting too crowded you clearly expressed your dissatisfaction. Paskelle, it was great to see your active involvement in the conversation about solving this problem. You were able to communicate your point of view and to listen to the interests of your friends. All children involved agreed on the solution for some children to barbecue outside the playhouse, whilst others continued cooking inside. Well done for finding a peaceful solution! Paskelle, your interest in pretend play gives you the opportunity for conversation with peers and adults, and form the basis of cooperative learning. These interactions will include agreement, disagreement, explanations, negotiation and consensus. To extend your play-based learning experiences I will offer literacy props, such as writing materials and a range of books. You might want to explore print on packets, and perhaps help to create a shop?
