I found what I want to play with.

Child: Aneece Date: September2013 Written by: Teacher Eunjoo

Kia Ora/ As salamu alaykum Aneece and whnau, This morning I let the children choose their toy to play outside. I noticed that most of them took their favorite toy outside to play with. However, Aneece, when you entered the shade you spent some time choosing the toy. You are always very determined to do something so I waited for you to choose your toy. Finally, you found what you wanted and turned to me. You inicated a ten pin

ball. Then I remembered that you really enjoyed playing with them last time. You certainly recalled and revisited the play. When I handed it to you you opend and put all the pinns on the ground.

Later Sahra joined you and she worked hard with you to stand the pins on the ground. However, they were light and easily fell down like dominos. You and Sahra continued placing them straight up on the ground. Once you finished standing them up you grabbed a ball to throw. Sadly, the wind blew the pins away but I believed that you didnt care about it that much. You kept playing with Sahra and smiled a lot. What is happening here? This learning story tells us that you certainly know how to remember an activity you previously did, revisit it and enjoy and make the most of your time. Ka pai. Aneece, it is great to see that you are confident in choosing and initiating your own play with items that interest you. You have shown us that you are creative and curious for everything. I believe that you will become more creative and expressive in communicating your ideas through your play. You obviously know a great deal about making plans and then implementing those plans. I am really happy to see that your confidence and decisionmaking process such as Tino rangatiratanga (Carr, Lee &Jones,

2004) have developed through playing with your peers by choosing and using toys and materials by yourself. Tino pai!

Whats next for Aneeces learning step? Aneece, I enjoyed watching you initiate the play and engaged with your peers. Our teachers will continue to provide opportunities for you to develop working theories for making sense of the natural, social, physical and material worlds. Child/Parents/Whnau Voice
