Rodgers Data Driven Instruction Data driven instruction is one of the most important things to do to prepare you as a teacher before the beginning of the school year. Before students arrive at the beginning of the school year teachers find out all the information about their students. They are collecting data. This data is from all the students previous teachers with little notes about the student including their learning style, behavioral issues, and etc. Teachers are very accountable for a students learning. There are standards that teachers and schools have to follow. The standard is that staff development that improves the learning of all students uses disaggregated student data to determine adult learning priorities, monitor progress, and help sustain continuous improvement. Data driven instruction is so important because it drives instruction, which provides curriculum continuity. It allows for differentiation for all students, along with self-monitoring for student and the teacher. Finally it is important because it allows teachers to become a diagnostician. There are different types of data and the state is moving towards a balanced assessment system by purpose. There is formative data which is used to quickly inform instruction. There is also benchmark type of data. This is used to benchmark and monitor progress and finally there is summative data. Summative data is used to evaluate cumulative learning.
