Australian Identity

Semester 2 , Term 3
Rationale. Explore how the Australian identity and culture has been shaped through the events of migration and war.
10 Weeks 2 Assessments This assessment will lay the foundations for your S&E success in upper school.

What is identity?
Identity is difficult to explain. This is because it is an idea,

a set of beliefs or concepts. It may not be a real thing we can touch or see. Identity is the way we feel and think about ourselves and others. Our identity tells how we should act and behave and what we should value. Because other people can feel and think differently to us, identity is something that can be argued about. Identity can change over time as society changes, so does the way we think and feel.

What is Australian Identity?

Australian identity means those things that we feel are

important to us as Australians. Remember, there will be some things we agree on that are truly Australian, and things that are not. Australian identity has been shaped by many different historical events and personalities.
