Fantastic Four vs. I Am Number Four

What can be more satisfying than watching movies during your leisure time? What genre of movies would you choose to watch then? Movies are a source of popular entertainment that entertain people of all ages. You will be transformed into a different world once you are indulged in watching a movie. However, watching different genres of movies will transform them into different worlds. As for me, I would choose to watch science fiction movies because science fiction movies ta e me away from the real world as they often construct imaginary worlds with the aid of special effects .!"ergan,#$$%& 'cience fiction movies are movies that consist of scientific stories in an non(logical way or fictional sense. !)oward a *efinition of 'cience +iction, #$$,&. A few characteristics of science fiction are aliens, space travel, time travel, futuristic setting and advanced technology. Among all the science fiction movies that I have watched, +antastic +our and I Am -umber +our are the ones that gave me deep impressions. +antastic +our starts off with a ban rupt physicist .eed .ichards who has permission from /ictor, the 012 of /on *oom Industries to use their privately owned space station and he brings abroad three of his friends to travel outer space to observe the cosmic energy cloud to verify his belief about the cause of human evolution on 1arth millions of years ago. He miscalculates the clouds materiali3ed ahead and they are e4posed to the cosmic storm. When they return to 1arth, they begin to mutate and start to develop strange powers. /on *oom who is plotting a revenge starts to mutate as well due to the e4ploding of the

control station. 2n the other hand, the story of I Am -umber +our begins with the aggressive Mogadorians invades 5oriens for its resources and illing one of the nine 6rades of 5oriens who possesses magic powers .7ohn 'mith, -umber +our of the 6rades is sent to 1arth together with seven other 6rades and their respective guardians. )he Mogadorians plan to ill them in se8uence and come to 1arth to find them. Although the movies are from the same genre, but there are some differences between them such as settings, themes and e4traordinary powers. +irst of all, the difference between the two movies is settings. "oth of the movies have different settings. "oth of the movies are set in different states of 9nited states on 1arth and the outer space. In fact, the movie +antastic +our has only one scene in the outer space when .ichards and his friends travel there to carry out a test on the cosmic energy cloud and causes them to mutate. )he movie is mostly set in -ew Yor 0ity where they spend most of their time in /on *oom Industries and .ichards:s lab in the "a4ter "uilding set in Manhattan before and after the mutation happens. -ot only that, an important incident happens on the "roo lyn "ridge mar s the time when their abilities are revealed to the world. However, I Am -umber +our has a few scenes set on the foreign planets in the outer space which are the 5orien and Mogadore in the beginning of the movie when a Mogadorian ills one of the 6rades on 5orien and the scenes of Mogadorians on Mogadore. )he movie mostly ta es place in 2hio where 7ohn and his guardian move in to an old farm there to hide away from the Mogadorians. 7ohn:s legacies are revealed in 2hio as well during a 'pring +air when he defends himself from someone who is trying to intimidate him and his loved one.

2ther than that, another difference found between the two movies is themes. +antastic +our is more about superheroes and revenge of the evil. When /ictor secretly nows that he starts to mutate and gain special powers that can ma e him stand a chance to win against the +antastic +our , he starts plotting his revenge against them as his company is going ban rupt because of the failure of spaceship mission. However, his plan go far beyond than ;ust a revenge plan as he wants more now with his superpowers. )herefore, the +antastic +our becomes the superheroes to stop his evil plan to save the world. 2n the other hand, I Am -umber +our is more about escape and aliens. 7ohn who is an alien from 5orie is trying to hide himself on 1arth from Mogadorians who have been searching for him for his legacies. )he whole story is more li e a hide a see game between 7ohn and Mogadorians. 5astly,the movies are also differ in the e4traordinary powers own by the main characters. )he four main characters in +antastic +our and the main character in I Am -umber +our possess different e4traordinary powers. )he +antastic +our receives different powers after they are being e4posed to the cosmic storm..eed .ichards gains the ability to stretch his body into any shape he desires. 'usan 'torm can become invisible and generate force shields using light waves as a defensive effect. 7ohnny 'torm can engulf himself in flame, control nearby fire and is able to fly unaided. 5astly, "en 6rimm is nown for his trademar roc y appearance with super strength and durability. However, 7ohn in I Am -umber +our is born with the magical powers which the 5oriens called it as the 5egacies. 7ohn:s 5egacies include enhanced strength, speed and agility , tele inesis and the power to transmit plasma light through this hands.

As a conclusion, even though both movies are from the same genre but they can be differed in so many different areas such as settings, themes and e4traordinary powers. )herefore, I thin science fiction is the best genre to watch during your leisure time for you will never find science fiction movies boring as they are never the same stories with the same settings, themes and even e4traordinary powers. +or that reason, people tend to find science fiction movies interesting.
