I met again last week with my Administrator she is interviewing for a case manager all this week and i will be spending a lot of time with shadowing her with this process .

Hello Dr. Bey, Today I spoke with Professor Payne and based on our conversation she brought to my attention the email you received from Kim Ellis addressing her concerns about having me as an intern at her agency. As you are aware from all the email correspondence you were copied on, this whole process from the very beginning was frustrating and confusing. She failed to keep the communication open between us, where times I would not hear from her even after leaving her voicemail messages & sending her emails. Starting this semester, nothing seemed to have changed but I diligently continued to try my best to get the internship process going. Therefore, I find it very disturbing for her to say I was 40 minutes late for our meeting where we were to discuss my internship along with my learning objectives/expectations, when she had candidates waiting to be interviewed, which caused her to limit my scheduled appointment to a matter of minutes. I am fully aware that this matter is a moot point. However, I felt a need and an obligation, due to the attack on my professionalism, to address the issue with you directly just to remind you of all the emails and conversations you and I exchanged trying to get my internship with this agency up and running since May 2013. Knowing how far behind I am, I plan to solicit my own internship within 72 hours and meet the 120 hours requirement by the end of the semester. I will keep you as well as Professor Payne updated on my progress. Respectfully, Renita Good morning Dr. Bey, I appreciate your response and understand your reasoning. My response wasnt meant to

be anything more than my opportunity to respond in order to protect my integrity, which I felt was being attacked. Of course I understand as the employer her interpretation, whether it be true or false, is the deciding factor. However, I was totally unaware of her desire to not have me as her intern until I received the call. If I had known as she stated in your conversation, I would have contacted you both immediately; the way I have always done throughout my studies at WilmU. Nonetheless, I am actively and desperately seeking my own placement, and even working with a five week delay, I guarantee I will still meet the 120 hours by the end of the course. Thank you for your time.

This morning I attended my internship site ,it was amazing ,today i learned that becoming a great leader is learning to ajust and having the strenght to put out fires with wisdom .Within the first 20 minutes of my arrival ,the director was faced with several situations that had to be resolved immediately .She responded to all matters with calmness and wisdom. WOW !!! As I gazed into the action all around me ,I continued to stay focus and concentrate on what I set the goal for this morning and that was to gather information about the program in preparing for my Agency Presentation in 4 days . selah

This morning when I walked into the building to do my internship ,I reconized that I need to stay focus in reaching my goals, I made a vow to myself that I was going to work harder in preparing myself .This often is called will power. If they give up on a goal ,they put it down of lack of will power and motivation and I do not want that type of approach.I'm learning as I try diffrent paths, I am discovering which ones fit my learning style and the circumstances I am encountering. On this internship , I am observing professionalism in my choosen

profession. Im trying to make learning by observation a more powerful and directed learning experience . Eventually , Im realizing my skills and turning it into a business opportunity .They set a goal for me last week that I am specifically trying to accomplish. It entails participating in the committee in which a big event that they plan for every year is up and forthcoming on Oct 18,2013. They asked me if I could handle the media communication part,, I agreed. As a result of my acceptance to this task ,thats what I will be concertrating on this week to come .This is all new to me ,the whole public relations part. I've had classes @to Public Relations but we all know if you dont use it ,You'll Looose it .Im going to try my best .

"LIGHTS ON " Program 10/18/2013

I am a little excited today , I will be attending my internship after work today ,to finish putting the final details together on the "Lights On " program which is held on thursday. I am assisting with creating the food menu ,contacting parents to ensure participation.Lastly I will be follwing up with the various politicians and public relations representation to layout the final plans.

Today when I attended the site it was a little overwhelming ,because they have just recently downsized to be able to share space with another pre-K program .Today no one knew where anything was ,everyone was running around searching for the basics and in addtion ,the children for some reason were very over active today .As I shawdowed the Director ,she eventually got a hold of staff and students to redirect themselves and to stay focus .It was almost as if she called a quick emergency early morning meeting for calmness and redirection of focus.This Director is amazing how she handles three ,four incidents at once and never skips a beat ,always having a calm, professional and cheerful behavoral manner at All times with those bad behind kids. (lol) I wasnt feeling 100 , because of my most recent minor breast surgery on Tuesday 10/15/2013. Subsequently I will continue to gain knowlege and learn how to desinate staff ,conduct a meeting ,communitcate effectively with my secretary ,bend

down to meet the lil ones where they are, and treat my staff with respect and dignity all at the same time . This director demostrates this behavior in a manner that I have never seen before .This is defininitely a personal development skill for me . Awesome ,I love it .

On Friday October the 25th, I actually met with Mr Malik Stewart ,who is the overseerer of this entire program. It was very educational. We discussed reinforcements of expectations, he provided me with some important dates of events that my presences is needed. Several events are quickly approaching: Wednesday 11/13/2013 4:3010:00PM Board Meeting , 11/16/2013 10-2 PM Saturday at Dickerson High School, he has a table set up for myself and the Director of the Program Ms.Lacy. December 7,2013 9-12, we will be hosting a Parent Wokshop while the students are attending a anual event "Saturaday Reading, " it will be housed in the Library of Warner. The action learning is steadily picking up at a vastly rate. I am also going to meet with the parents of 10 children thru a selection process that will take place sometime next week, he is asking that I create a flyer, informing parents of what journaling for kids is and what all it entails, provide them a schedule and times of the journaling sessions. He will be providing the consent form that will be attached to the flyer. I will personally be heading up this journaling project. This is all a new experience for me, and I am more excited now than ever. Im constantly thinking out the box, creating new ideas, and continuously absorbing knowledge from two awesome Administrators that are on point at ALL times. THIS IS SOME GOOD STUFF PEOPLE !!! LOL

These last two weeks have been very busy at Project Chance. Last Thursday on November 7th ,I attended a city/council meeting at 7:00 pm .The program im interning with aka "Project Chance " was awarded and reconized for a Proclamation. AWESOME !!! Agmonst the attendees were the Site director/coordinator Ms. Lacy and the Executive Director Mr. Malik Stewart. It was very enlighting to be apart of that organization and stand tall with the rest of the staff in acceptance. My analysis of this program 10 weeks in, I still have the same perception if not a better one of the way this program is being managed. Several of my goals and objectives that I set for myself personally, are being accomplish. I am observing the after-school leaders utilizing principles and practices .,their approach has provided positive social and academic learning opportunities for our students. I have been pulling up my sleeves and participating in gymnasium and playground activities as well . The site director has his/her moments with participation as well , you can find them doing anything at any given time ,when it comes to providing and organizing creative activities for these students ,in addition to the learning skills that theses students are receiving in and out of class , before and after school and all in between.

Winding Down ,Stressing Up

a. Analysis of my experiences as an intern using reflective processing techniques. Last week there was a request to set up a meeting to discuss the annual "Reading on Saturday " program ,scheduled for December 7th 2013 from 9am - 1 pm at Warner Elementary School Library. Per the Learning Contract requirements, one of my expectations from the director was to assist with the coordination of a parent workshop, while the students were participating in thie activities. For the first time I was introduce to "Doodle.com" ,the director explained this technique process to me and upon completion I must admit, I was very excited to obtain one more notch of knowledge. Doodle.com allowed me to reach out to the necessary people and arrange a meeting ,whereas convient for all parties. b.)Analysis of my strenghts and needs related to the performance of the duties of a Human Services administratior. As a human service worker the needs required are based on the needs of the poulation you are serving. One of my greatest strentghs is the ability to communicate with a diverse population. Therefore, my strength comes from my personality, my gift of gab, and my ability to meet people where they are in the time of their need. These soft skills allowed me to make break throughs to otherwise difficult matters. My desire to service the public professionally and socially, assists me with meeting that goal. In my day to day job, I interact with all sorts of people from all sorts of life as well as some of the higest judicial officers which also can be chanllenging at times. c.) A clearly articulated self-improvement plan based on my analysis. I am not assertive enough when it comes to giving feedback sometimes. I'm identifying with the fact that I sometimes lack initiative because of too much planning but no action. There are times that I get overwhelmed with stress when of load. My self improvement plan will continue to develop more self confidence and courage. Sometimes it's hard conceptualize goals and action steps, but im gonna hang in there and continue to brainstrom in various ways. Im realizing that it is basically turning the being into a do-able action step.

Another common area identified as either a strength or weakness was my skills in working in a team environment. Where as I identified this area as a strength that generally works out well and has been for the duration of my internship experience . Ive learned that it is sometimes hard for me to accept that I have to rely on other members of the team

The experiences of internship provide many potential triggers for personal growth. The balance between facilitators and barriers has helped me to determine whether personal growth is more or less likely to occur. Project Chance may wish to consider my findings, particularly the importance of supportive relationships, reflection, and commitment to core values in promoting personal growth during this internship shadowing . Further research is needed to determine the best methods to identify and measure personal growth, as well as to promote it.

This was not a good week for me, I just thought I would share this for reflection purposes .
