Raymond Wen 4/30/13 Final Draft of Summative Assessment for OT (Speech) Children today are being imprisoned in factories

and mills. Children should have the chance to have an education and play, not be forced to suffer in work. They barely get enough to help their family. Child labor is atrocious, it damages their health, and their pay is not enough to even get some necessities for their family. The Keating Owen Child Labor Bill could be passed but with some modifications that allow children to have an education. The Keating- Owen Bill will have a superb impact on the employers. The Keating-Owen Bill says that no children under 14 can work (Keating - Owens). This would be good because there would be more experienced workers that would lead to fewer injuries and better work. In a photograph of a poster by Hines, there are 2 employers; the first employer has poor conditions and terrible policies. The result is a run-down place with low quality workers and smaller profits. The second employer has good conditions and high standards. The result is a well-managed place with high grade workers with eagerness to work (Hines). If the factories and mills can do this it is a win-win situation for the children and the employers, the children can have good conditions to work for and the employers can have better profits. The Keating-Owen Bill will protect the children from getting injured and have better working conditions. It will be a very arduous time for children at such a young age to be injured or sick. Imagine if you were young and had bronchitis and didnt have all your fingers. There is evidence that children working in factories have psychological, physical and mental effects, injuries, rapid skeletal growth, greater risk of hearing loss are cited as frequent results. (Health Issues) It will have a bad effect on the children and it can ruin their childhood. Children will be scarred for life for what they have been through. Children should be playing not working the whole day. Not only will children not get injured as much but they will also get an education.

Raymond Wen 4/30/13 Final Draft of Summative Assessment for OT (Speech) The Keating Owen Bill should include education it will help the children and the employers. Education will help the children grow and understand more. In the factories they can only learn how to do one job, but when they have an education they will have a chance to learn a variety of jobs. A poster, photographed by Hines, it compares the time in school verses the time at work. It says In schools 9 months 5 hours, In the factory 12 months 8 hours (Hines) It seems that education isnt as significant as working in the factory for money. Education is also better because it lets children learn imagination, cooperation, and have better thinking skills. Children would much rather learn and explore the world then to work at a factory with many hazards and barely get anything. The Keating Owen Bill will help the children and employers, keep them safe from injures and sickness, and give them an education. Children have the right to learn and play, but not to suffer and undergo pain.
