1. Description of exemplar and how it demonstrates meeting this ACEI Standard and Element(s). "n this lesson+ " introduced to students different parts of a plant. 5e started from the !round up !oin! from roots to stem+ lea/es+ and e/entually flo*ers. Pre/iously the students had .een introduced to the elements needed for a plant to sur/i/e so they had some familiarity *ith the su.6ect. $tudent *ere e/entually !i/en a pre)made .ooklet that *ould .e used as a fill in the .lank for the different parts of the plant. 1irst+ they read a .ook *ith me in a read)aloud that explained each part of the plant. 5e stopped occasionally to look at a detailed dra*in! that *as on the Elmo to correlate /isually *hat *as .ein! read. E/entually+ they *ould fill in the .lanks in the .ook that *as descri.in! different parts of the plant. This lesson *as /ery introductory as *e *ould soon mo/e further into the su.6ect .y plantin! our o*n flo*ers and o.ser/e them as they !re*. 1or one student in particular+ *ho lacks /er.al communication and fine motor skills+ " had to modify the lesson. 7e *as in/ol/ed *ith his EA in the readin!+ .ut his assi!nment *as different. " created a picture matchin! .ook for him that had the different parts of a plant. 7e also had extra pictures that matched those in the .ook alon! *ith some distractors to challen!e him. 7e *ould ha/e to look at the .ook and successfully match the correct pictures on as directed from his EA. 1or example+ *hen she *ould say+ 8$ho* me the stem9+ he *ould ha/e to match the loose stem picture *ith the picture in the .ook. Another student+ *ho lacks fine motor skills and therefore *ould not .e a.le to *rite in the small spaces of the .ook+ *as pro/ided *ith the *ords already *ritten out for *hich he *ould !lue the ri!ht *ords in the ri!ht spaces. 7e *as also !i/en a fe* distractor *ords as to challen!e him. . !eflection on m" professional growth in #nowledge$ s#ills$ and dispositions related to this ACEI Standard and Element(s).

Althou!h this *as one of the more .asic lessons " ha/e e/er put to!ether+ " think it *as *ell recei/ed .y all of the students. "t *as an idea that " *anted to start at a /ery concrete le/el .efore *e actually planted our o*n flo*ers and started !ettin! into more detailed *ork *hen *e *ould start o.ser/in! a fe* *eeks after*ards. " feel that " prepared properly for the assi!nment+ especially !i/en the /ast differences of the students. The t*o *hom " had to modify the lesson for kept up *ith the pace of the class and seemed to en6oy participatin!.
