STATEMENT FROM MS.

WILLIAMS

I still have nightmares about how crazy Ms. Theo was Me and Roach (my boyfriend) wanted to get some food. Wed been watching football all day and kept seeing food commercials. I hate McDonalds and the last time I cooked, I almost burnt the kitchen down. I kept thinking about carne asada fries, so we had to go to Javiers. It took Roach like 20 minutes to find the car keys, so by the time we got in the car, I was starving. Roach decided to call in the order to Javiers so that the food would be ready by the time we got there. He shouldnt have have been, but Roach was on his cell phone while driving, and a little bit distracted. As he was dialing Javiers number, he took a wide turn onto Lombard. Thats when Ms. Theo lost her mind. She blared on the horn and made an angry face at me. I didnt think it was all that necessary for her to do that, so I flipped her off. Was that the right thing to do? Probably not, but its not a crime either. Then that crazy lady decided to follow us! Thats when things got scary. She was right on our bumper the whole time. She was honking and flashing her lights. It was a dangerous situation. Roach races cars on the weekends, so he was in control the whole time, but I was really freaking out. He tried to loose her as we drove down Lombard, but when we got near Javiers he decided to park because Ms. Theo wasnt going to give up. At the time it looked like she had a knife in her handmaybe those were her keys though. I couldnt tell because it was dark. She had followed us for almost ten minutes and now she was threatening my boyfriend. He would never hit a woman, so he was kind of sitting there helpless. I knew he had left a baseball bat in the trunk, so I pushed the trunk release button in the car and got the bat out. I wanted to cause a distraction so she wouldnt hurt Roach. I hit her side view mirror a couple of times, but when she heard the noise, she rushed at me! I. Was so. Scared. I didnt know what to do. I was afraid she might kill me. My adrenaline was pumping so much; the rest is kind of a blur. I just remember swinging the bat at her once or twiceIm not sure where I even hit her. As soon as I could, I ran towards Roach and just started crying. He sat me down on the curb and the next thing I knew, the arrogant police officer was asking me a billion questions. This psycho lady almost kills us and I get arrested?!!! What kind of a world do we live in?!!!

STATEMENT FROM MR. CLAIR

Denise (my girlfriend) and I were sitting at home on September 2nd watching football. We kept seeing food commercials and we were starving. It seemed like we had been eating all day, but we were still hungry. As soon as she said, carne asada fries, I knew we were going to Javiers. We got in the carwe live on the east side of N. Ida across from the Roosevelt High School tennis courts. We were so hungry that we were getting a little irritated. You know that feeling you get when youre super hungry? Anyway, when we passed N. Central, I decided it would be better to call Javiers and place the order so it would be ready by the time we got there. I decided to call in the order so we wouldnt have to wait. I wanted to turn left onto N. Lombard, but Ms. Theos car was taking up the whole road. The light doesnt stay green for long, so I stepped on the gas. As soon as I passed her, she blared on the horn. Some people just dont know how to drive. You know? I race cars on the weekends at the Portland International Speedway. My Drivers Education teacher once said that I was the best driver hed ever taught. I mean, he was my uncle too, but I dont think hed lie. Anyway, once I got onto Lombard, I realized that Ms. Theo was following me. Originally, she was going to turn right from southbound Ida to westbound Lombard, but instead took a left to follow me. And boy was this lady a terrible and dangerous driver. She mustve seen Fast and the Furious too many times. She was on my bumper for the entire trip. I calmly changed lanes back and forth to try and shake her, but she was driving like a maniac. Denise was going bonkers in the passenger seat. She looked scared. I think she thought the lady was going to run us off the road. If it wasnt for my expert driving skills, she may have. I finally decided to stop in the parking lot of Javiers. I didnt want this crazy lady to run over any innocent children. I was worried about my safety after pulling over, but getting her off of the road was the responsible thing to do. When I got out of the car, I was going to ask her to leave us alone, but she walked up in my face threatening me and swearing at me. She was so mad; spit was flying out of her mouth. I felt some of it hit me in the eye. Gross. I didnt know what she was capable of. I mean, who does she think I am? I didnt do anything to her. Denise was just trying to get her away because she knows I wouldnt hit a woman. How else were we going to get her leave us alone? And then that cocky Officer Rudy showed up. After Officer Arrogance, I mean Officer Rudy, finished asking questions, he started snooping around my car. I dont know why he was being so nosy. It was irritating. It was like he was trying to taunt me. Every time hed walk past the trunk of my car, hed give me a crooked cop smile. You know the kindwhere they scrunch up their lips and raise one eyebrow. I couldve easily turned the car off myself, but the kept ordering me to sit down. I wasnt even under arrest! I hadnt done anything wrong. I know my rights! He had no right to look into my car. And if he wouldve asked for my permission I would of said hhheck naaaw! Denise mustve left the trunk ajar when she got the bat out As far as the trunk goesI was.ummmholding the marijuana for a friend.

STATEMENT FROM MS. THEO

Had I known I wouldve run into a violent mad woman that day, I wouldve never left the house. I mean, I still have a little trouble walking, and my back always seems to be in serious pain. I was headed into downtown St. Johns and was going to make a right from southbound Ida to westbound Lombard. I was waiting for a man in a wheelchair to cross the street, so I was paused at the intersection, with my turn signal on, waiting for him to clear the intersection. All of a sudden those two crazy hooligans fly by and turn left onto Lombard. They raced past so quickly, that their car kicked up gravel. Several rocks hit my windshield, my grill, and the front left fender. But did they stop so we could exchange information? Of course not. They were only concerned about themselves. They dont care about hard working people like myself. AND to top it all of f, that crazy lady gave me the finger. I usually listen to my conscience and let things go, but this time, I said to myself, Vanessasometimes, you have to stick up for yourself. You have to do whats right even if its difficult. A week before this incident, I had been in an argument with a friend. It was really upsetting the way she treated me, so I guess I was just unwilling to take any more crap from anyone. I shouldnt have, but I decided to follow them. All I really wanted to do was to get the drivers information so I could have the damage to my car paid for by her insurance company. I tried to get the drivers attention by flashing my lights and honking my horn, but it didnt work. It was dark outside, so while I was following them, I pulled up close to the car so I could try to read the license plate. My vision at night isnt very great though, so it was kind of hard to make out the letters on the plate. When we pulled into the parking lot, I had to give them a piece of my mind. Is it fair for someone to damage my car and then try to get out of paying for it? Not on my watch it isnt. So I went up to talk to them. I was really angry, so I was kind of animated. I was trying to get some information from them, but they wouldnt say anything, and the lady kept looking at me crazy. She just had this half smirked smile on his face. You knowthe smile they do when their lips move, but their eyes and cheeks stay really still. And thats when that psycho woman took a bat to my car! I mean these people were just out of this world. They damage my car, give me the finger, lead me on a chase, damage my car some more. And thenCRACK! CRACK! CRACK! She hit me with the bat three times. Once in each knee and then once on the back. The pain was unbearable. I think I may have even blacked out for a bit after the third hit. Next think I knew, I was in the back of an ambulance. What a night, huh? Its tough being an innocent bystander nowadays. Anyway, the doctor that treated me said I have a couple of cracked ribs, a bruised left patella, and a hairline fracture on my right knee. I hope those maniacs get everything they deserve. I say lock them up and throw away the key. Ohand pay for my damages and injuries

STATEMENT FROM OFFICER RUDY

I have been on the police force for over 12 years. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and have a degree in Criminal Justice from Portland State University. My dad was a Lieutenant, and my grandfather was a detective with the Salem Police Department when he was killed in the line of duty during an undercover drug sting. My dad always said that grandpa would still be alive if he wouldve followed his instincts. He spent too much time trying to do things the politically correct way. I started with the Police Bureau as a traffic cop and have worked my way up to Senior Officer. Ive gone to lots of trainings on how to handle these situations, and I KNOW I did a great job that night. Id love to be a detective someday as Ive spent my whole life chasing crooks and low-life scumbags. Im one of those people who believe that we have to get crime off the streets by any means necessary. I mean, if I have to break a minor rule or two to save lives, Ill do it---any good cop would. Thats what my dad taught me. Its my job to protect and serve at all costs. I have two small children at home. I dont want them to live in a world where we spend more time protecting criminals rights than we do the right of law-abiding citizens. Before I received the call on September 2, I was just getting ready to end my shift. I had been on an 18-hour patrol providing extra protection for the political convention at the Expo Center by Delta Park. No biggie. They just ask the most talented officers to provide security for politicians. I was driving southbound on MLK Jr. Blvd when the call came in over the radio, so I was probably no more than 3 minutes away from Javiers. Criminals need about a 10 minute head start if theyre gonna escape from me. Even though I was exhausted, I made an extremely accurate police report. Everything I wrote was exactly how it happened. When I arrived, poor Ms. Theo was beat up badly and Mr. Clair and Ms. Williams were sittin on the curb. Most criminals try to flee the scene, but they probably knew it wasnt a good idea when they heard me driving down Lombard--thats just how good I am. The way I look at it iseven if a judge might slightly disagree with my search protocol, didnt I just remove three pounds of marijuana off the street? How can that be a bad thing???
