BURNING TEST LAMP

AIM: To analyze the quality of kerosene and its tendency to form char on burning.

APPARATUS REQUIRED: Burning test lamp. PROCEDURE:

1. Fill the burning test lamp by measured amount of kerosene (in our case 1000 Ml)). 2. Light up the lamp and note the time at which it is started. 3. Leave the lamp lit for some period of time, and let the char be produced over the wick. 4. Put off the lamp and note the time at which it is put off. 5. Measure the remaining kerosene volume. 6. Also collect the char produced / deposited and weigh it.

OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:
Initial volume of kerosene = 1000 mL. Final volume of kerosene = 990 mL Consumed / burned kerosene = 10 mL Time interval for which lamp is lit = 25 minutes Weight of char collected = 4 mg
