Lesson 10

(30 minutes) Teacher Overview: Teacher should be well acquainted with playing the piano as well as leading vocal warm-ups with a choir. Teacher must also know Solfege as well as the Curwen hand signs. Teacher must be able to sing and sign the song Mousie, Mousie, and sing and play the song Do-Re-Mi. Teacher must know the Goodbye song with some variations. Teacher must have iPad with Random Name Selector App available. Also, students names must be entered into app. Objectives: Students will sing a group warm-up, Do-Re-Mi, Mousie, Mousie, and a Goodbye song. Students will use Curwen hand signs to assist in singing Solfege. Students will play the game Mousie, Mousie as a culminating activity in this unit. Content Standards: Sub-Strand 1.1 Read, write, and perform simple rhythmic patterns, using eighth notes, quarter notes, half notes, and rests. Sub-Strand 1.2 Read, write, and perform simple patterns of pitch, using solfege. Sub-Strand 2.2 Sing age-appropriate songs from memory. Common Core Standards (projected): Creating: Present Share their music through performance and notation with peers/informal audience. Today the teacher will choose two students to lead the group in Soto Voce exercises.

2. Then, the teacher will take the group outside and have them form a circle where they sit criss-cross applesauce with their knees touching. There should only be an opening about 5 feet across on one end of the circle. 3. The teacher will demonstrate how the kitty walks around the inside of the circle and tries to find the mousie before the mousie gets to the hole in the wall (opening in the circle). The kitty steps to the beat while tapping the beat on their legs. 4. Each turn, the kitty goes to sleep outside of the circle where the student cant see who is selected to be the mousie. 5. The kitty returns and struts around the inside of the circle while the students sing the song and use hand signs. 6. This game will serve as an enjoyable, culminating activity to this unit.
