Women in World War II

Process Paper
Why we chose this topic: Since both Rylie and I share a love of history especially during the era of World War II we decided to do out project in this time period. We thought about the war and the effects it had on the many men, but realized we didnt know much about the women during the war. This made us want to learn more about the many important roles of women, but we didnt want to just focus on the efforts at home we also wanted to learn more about the many brave women who served in the army. We then learned that women had served in every major branch and looked to learn about their roles in each branch, and on the home front. How we conducted our research: Our first research started with online sources. We looked at many useful websites but felt that we need more information, especially about firsthand accounts. My partner Rylie went to our public library and found a book from the library of congress and three other books containing letters and firsthand accounts from women who served. This provided firsthand details that we otherwise could not have obtained. We cited each source as soon as we found useful information as not to fall behind for out annotated bibliography. After collecting a sufficient amount of information we created an outline to better plan the creation of our website. How we developed our website: We first organized all of our information into categories to put on tabs and sub tabs. We then wrote information to fill each page, edited then typed onto the website. After our information was ready, we then focused on design and multimedia. We searched for pertinent quotes from

important people of the time period and looked for pictures that portrayed the efforts of the women. We also looked to include and propaganda video from the government during the war and audio of the military anthems. How our project connects to the theme: Our project connects to the theme in more than one way. First during the war the women wanted to serve their country from more than just the home front and as citizens of America felt they had the same right to provide a service to their country in the military. It was the responsibility of the government to provide a sufficient amount of soldiers to the war efforts in order to be successful and bring victory, when the need for soldiers grew allow the women to fight fulfilled this responsibility.
