EFL assumes literacy. Analise a typical page of a course book. What difficulties would speakers of different cultures face?

Find out what the students needs are first eg social sight words, name , address Do listening and speaking first! Start with large font size. Start with a few words and build up. Help students make a persnal dictionary. Use visuals Cut and sort words, pictres, sentences(sequencing, matching, ordering...) on card

Developing adult literacy


Use look, say, cover, write, strategy to learn spellings. Use models to guide writing. Language experience students talk, teacher writes simple sentences to cut up, sort and copy. Use students own pictures etc. Recycle and practise language in many different ways over a period of time.
