The first sentence in your response should clearly answer the question without going into great detail.

Cite evidence or proof from the text to support your answer.

Prove your answer with a detail or quote from the text. When you use the exact words from a text, you must introduce the text, put it in quotes and cite the page if appropriate. Examples: When Mary said, Im happy to know boys tremble, too (line 130), she felt better about her own nervousness. In the story, Marys grandfather had never said we couldnt accept hospitality (line 228).

Explain how your evidence relates to and supports your answer.

After each piece of evidence, explain in a sentence or two how that evidence helps support your answer. Convince the reader that your citations prove your answer! Examples: This quote shows that It is clear that When this happened, it showed This quote/event/action explains how Everything you write should relate back to and support your ANSWER.
