AreportpublishedthisweekbyMediaMattersforAmerica,analyzedSundayshowsonyour networks,includingABC'sThisWeekwithGeorgeStephanopoulos,CBS'FacetheNationwithBob Schieffer,FoxBroadcastingCo.'sFoxNewsSundaywithChrisWallace,NBC'sMeetthePresswithDavid Gregory,CNN'sStateoftheUnionwithCandyCrowley,andMSNBC'sUpandMelissaHarrisPerry.The reportfoundthatoverallgenderdiversityonthebroadcastshowsandCNNwaslacking,withmenmakingup morethan70percentoftheguestsoneachprogram.Bycontrast,MSNBCreachednearparity,hosting women43percentofthetime.Whenitcametooneononeinterviews,theratioswereevenmoreonesided towardmen,withmenreceivingatleast85percentofthesolointerviewtimeonallofthebroadcastshows andonCNN. TherearequalifiedwomentospeakonissuesaffectingallAmericans,includingnationalsecurity, economicgrowth,climatechange,educationandmanyothers.Butwhenitcomestoreproductivehealth, equalpay,andothersubjectsdisproportionatelyaffectingwomen,itbecomesincreasinglyimperativethat Sundaypoliticaltalkshowsreflectourdemocracy.Thisisparticularlyimportantsincetheseshows frequentlysetthetoneforhowthesetopicsarecoveredlaterintheweek.
