HOMEWORK # 2 1. The following data pertain to a newly discovered saturated oil reservoir. The areas of the top and bottom of the reservoir are given in the table below. Depth (ft) 6000 6100 6200 6300 6400 6500 Area (Top) (acres) 0 454.5455 909.0909 1363.636 1818.182 2272.727 Area (Bottom) (acres) 0 500 1000 1500 2000

Gas-oil contact = 6050 ft, Oil-water contact = 6450 ft Average porosity = 0.25 Avearge connate water saturation = 0.15 Oil Formation volume factor, Boi = 1.20 bbl/STB Solution gas-oil ratio, Rsi = 700 SCF/STB Gas formation volume factor, Bgi = 4.4210-3 ft3/SCF Plot the top and bottom areas as a function of depth. Use the above data to determine the following: a) b) c) d) e) Pore volume of each zone (MM bbl) Initial free gas in place (MMM SCF) Initial oil in place (MM STB) Dissoved gas in place (MMM SCF) Volume of water in each zone (MM bbl)

2. The following reservoir data were estimated from subsurface maps, core analysis, well tests, and fluid samples obtained at several wells. pi = 2,000 psia, = 18% Sw = 33% Bo = 1.25 RB/STB Rs = 750 scf/STB

T = 175F

Using the subsurface data from several wells, the geologist has made a net oil isopach map. This map was drawn by hand and a planimeter was used to get the following results:

Contour interval, feet 0 20 40 60 80

Interval Ttickness, Feet 20 20 20 20

Area encompassed by contour, acres 2000 1650 1400 1200 950

Using these data and the volumetric method, calculate the following information: a) Calculate reservoir bulk volume using the trapezoid method. b) Calculate original oil in place. c) Calculate original solution gas in place. 3. The Production history of an under-saturated oil reservoir is given in the table below. Also listed in the table are the PVT data. Rock compressibility = 4.5x10-5 psi-1 Water compressibility = 2.5x10-5 psi-1 Initial water saturation = 0.15 Pressure

There was no water production and assume no water influx. Use the above data to determine the following: a) b) c) d) Initial oil in place. Initial volume of gas in the reservoir. Initial volume of water in the reservoir. Determine the cumulative oil and gas recoveries when the reservoir pressure drops to 3480 psia.
