The Factory Manager advised the Human esource !H " Manager of the company to select a right man to fill up the vacancy of a #Time$%eeper#. The H Manager inserted an advertisement for this post in prominent local ne&spapers and received a large num'er of applications although specific (o' description and (o' re)uirements &ere em'odied in the advertisement. *fter preliminary screening of applications, the H Manager selected only + applications out of ,-. and sent them #*pplication Blan/# for collecting their detailed information. 0n receipt of *pplications and on further scrutiny, it &as o'served that t&o candidates &ere age$'ared, although they had a good e1perience to their credit and one candidate had a suspicious personal life. The H Manager therefore selected only three candidates and sent them call$letters for a personal intervie& on a stipulated date. 0nly t&o candidates out of three appeared for the intervie& 'efore the 2ntervie& 3anel consisting of three intervie&ers. The panel had therefore to ta/e a decision on selection, either of Mr. Maniam or Mr. Harun. The personal traits and merits of these t&o candidates are as follo&s 4 Mr. Maniam, a young man of 50 years, has &or/ed for a year in the Time 0ffice of a reputed company. He is an e1ceptionally socia'le, amica'le individual &ho en(oys mi1ing &ith employees. His ver'al s/ills are average. But he has a good degree of hardness. He can sit late in office and prepare payrolls of employees and complete the chec/ing of paysheets a day 'efore the actual date of payment. He does not demand e1tra remuneration or over$time for sitting late hours in office. He is a good sportsman also and has &or/ed as a secretary of a sports clu'. * glaring &ea/ness as revealed during the intervie& is that Mr. Maniam6s memorv is not strong and he may forget a tas/ assigned to him. But he is straight for&ard and fran/ly accepts his limitations. Mr Harun, is also a youth, aged 27, and has a good personality. a'ove average communication s/ills, 'ut at times is #rough# in dealing &ith people. His clerical and computational s/ills are e1cellent. He does not on his o&n mi1 &ith people or ta/e part in e1tra curricular activities. He (oined a te1tile mill as a cler/ in the Time 0ffice and &as promoted to the post of *ssistant Time %eeper &ithin a period of 5 years. He is against the principle of sitting late in office. His sense of time /eeping, punctuality is good and regular. He feels that attendance of employees must 'e posted in the regular register on the same day and paysheets must 'e /ept ready on ,st of every month and sent to the *ccount 8epartment, for chec/ing 'efore 5rd. 9imilarly, he prepares financial statements and returns in time and su'mits the same to respective :overnment authorities in time. Ho&ever, Mr. Harun is short tempered and at times he also had heated arguments &ith managerial e1ecutives. He limits his e1istence to his &or/ing ta'le and if any'ody unconnected &ith the office &or/ comes near his ta'le, he loses his temper.
