CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION A.

Background of the Study The Online Admission Application System allows universities to receive application through the web and applicants need not collect physical forms. All eligibility criteria are mentioned in the website. Applicants are required to fill in the online admission form and submit it online. On successful submission of the application the candidate receives a unique form no. against which he/she is required to present an identification card directly to the university that he/she is a legitimate resident of Manila. After verifying the identification card, a stub will be given to the applicant for details of the examination. B. Company Background Vision A First-Class College of globally competitive professionals and educational leaders for the sustainable development of the City of Manila and the country. Mission A College whose mission is anchored on its profound culture of excellence in the fields of academics, research and extension, community service, technopreneurship and employment, and vocational training.

The Universidad de Manila (formerly known as City College of Manila and also known as Gat Andrs Bonifacio University) is a public university in Manila. It is one of the two cityfunded universities of Manila. The main campus of UDM, which houses the Administration Building of the Division of City Schools-Manila, is at the heart of the Mehan Garden adjacent to the Liwasang Bonifacio and the Light Rail Transit Central Terminal. Apart from its main campus, the university maintains satellite centers in many parts of the City of Manila such as Escolta, Recto, Del Pan, San Andres, Dapitan and Tayuman.

C. Statement of the Problem Every year, thousands of students queue up for collecting admission/application forms and then again for submitting the forms, which is very slow and consuming much efforts and time. D. Objective/s of the Study General Objectives To be able to create an online admission system for Universidad de Manila Specific Objectives A. To minimize: Cost of Entire Process Total Time Required Human Involvement B. To maximize: Availability Transparency Accuracy Reliability C. To design a dynamic process and a user friendly online admission system. E. Significance of the Study A. Since the application information is entered by the candidate and that to once, this result in reduced turnaround time for the entire admission process. This saves a lot of time and effort on the part of the university as well as for the applicants. The Online Admission System integrates technology with the administrative/education process and is advantageous for both the institution and the students alike. It acts as a new success factor in addition to traditional sources of advantages.

B. The research study could provide information on the issues about the online admission system and other online systems mainly with the methods, expectations, outcomes or efficiency. Further, this study would also be a review on the online admission system particularly to those universities that still uses manual processing of admission today at present time. C. Developing the system improves skills and provides knowledge. F. Scope and Limitations The projects aim is to automate the admission process. G. Methodology Planning Data collection Long queues. Not enough space and chairs to accommodate all the applicants during that day so they end up waiting outside the campus. Manual type of process so it is time consuming. The others who came but wasnt able to transact because the limit to that day has already been reached so they have to go back again. Waste of time, effort and money of the applicants. Proposing the online admission system might be helpful in solving these problems. Hardware and Software Requirements Desktop/Laptop with at least Windows 7 OS

Implementing After the system has been made, it needs to undergo to a test to assure that the system is running properly and accordingly before implementing the system. Analysis Accomplishing this project will make the admission faster and convenient not only for the students but also to the university as well. H. Task Activity Network Requirement Analysis The online admission system allows the incoming freshmen students to apply via online. As the strength of the students is increasing at a tremendous speed, manual maintenance of student admission is very difficult. Hence the need for online admission is inevitable. Some of the requirements of the system are listed below: Manage large number of student details Manage all details of students who registered for the course Create student accounts and maintain the data effectively View all the details of the students Reduce the work load in interview for selection Activities like updating, modification, deletion of records should be easier System Design

Hardware Configuration System: Multimedia PC Processor: Pentium 4 or above Memory: 512MB RAM or above Hard Disk: 80GB or above Keyboard: 104 standards Monitor: SVGA Modem: Dial up/Broadband Software Configuration Front end: PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript Back end: MySQL OS: Windows The system should allow the candidate to apply via online after filling up the necessary information; it should produce a unique no. and will present it to the university together with the voters ID. After submitting all the necessary requirements the applicant should have a stub from the school containing the date and time of the examination Implementation After building the system, doing the necessary configuration it is now ready to implement by connecting the program on web. Testing

It is necessary to test first the system if it is working before deploying it. It should meet the requirements otherwise it needs to be reconfigured. Deployment Once the test has been done and meets the requirements, it is now ready for the deployment in the university. Maintenance The system needs to be maintained and enhanced specially if there are changes in their policy and the likes. The system should adapt changes. I. CHAPTER II: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

A. Related Literature 1. Foreign Studies Indias higher education system is the third largest in the world, after China and United State. The main governing body at tertiary level is the University Grants Commission. Which enforces its standards, advises the government, and help coordinate between the centre and the state? Accreditation for higher is overseen by 12 autonomous institutions established by the University Grants Commission. As of 2009, India has 2 central universities, 215 state universities, 100 deemed universities, 5 institutions established and functioning under the state act, and 13 institutes which are of national importance. Other institutions include 16,000 colleges, including 1800 exclusive womens colleges, functioning under these universities and institutions. 2. Local Studies The technology today plays a vital role in our society. It makes man work easier and faster. It lessens error of work by using machines. It reduces costs to an organization from paper works up to computerized working system. Many manual transactions can be computerized by using software applications or computer systems to make work easier and efficient. Information technology can give a company ready access to improve product and service quality, reduce costs, increase productivity in smallest time possible, and communication between employees and to make things with lesser effort but having a better output and even improve company morale.
