ABSTRACT

Ammonia production facilities provide the base anhydrous liquid Ammonia which is used predominantly in fertilizers supplying usable Nitrogen for agricultural productivity. Ammonia is one of the most abundantly-produced inorganic chemicals. In this project we have studied about different process for Ammonia production and analyzed the prospects and consequences of each process to suggest the best one which is more economic and efficient. Among these processes we have selected Haber-bosch process which is widely used in many industries in our country and also in other countries since it is economically feasible. Haber process currently produces 500 million tons of Nitrogen fertilizer per year, mostly in the form of anhydrous Ammonia, Ammonium nitrate, and Urea. Haber process is estimated to be responsible for sustaining one-third of the Earth's population. After selection of the process we have discussed in detail, the step by step process involved in production like material and energy balance of the process, equipment design and specifications. It also includes material selection criteria, plant location and plant layout, cost estimation, health and safety factors.
