2: Classroom Demographics and Knowledge of Students a) The classroom demographic factor that I believe will have the most impact on student learning is the percent of students who receive speech services. The instructional strategy that I would use in my classroom would be reading specific texts that focus on the isolation of speech sounds to improve fluency. I would pick a different text each week and have the students become familiar with that text by reading it several times. Through this activity, students would be improving their articulation by practicing consonant and vowel sounds. The learning activity that I would use to implement my strategy would be guided reading. I would meet with these particular students each day to help them strengthen their speech and fluency. We would practice different levels of isolation each week. For instance, we would focus on syllables one week and focus on sentence isolation the next week. We would build on each week based off of the students comfort level and improvement in fluency.

b) The knowledge-of-students factor that I believe will have the most impact on student learning is the interests of students. At the beginning of the year, I would distribute a student interest survey in order to collect data about each student. This survey would allow me to incorporate students interest in each of my lessons. It would also allow me to better understand each students learning style and address that, as well. The learning activity that I would use to further student learning would be student book clubs. I would group students according to their reading-level into book clubs. Each student from each club will have the opportunity to choose a book of their choice based off of their personal interests. Each week, the groups would meet and discuss the book that they are reading. Every group member would have a different book, so they would take turns discussing the main characters, setting, plot, and their favorite part of the book. This activity would allow for students to become actively involved in their own learning because they are participating in something that interests them.
