January 2014

Dear Parent In order to further support our students in their learning we will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) to all students in year 7 on Wednesday January 22nd 2014. On this day your son/daughter will need to bring a pair of earphones that can be used with a computer. CAT is made up of a series of short tests which assess a students reasoning (thinking) abilities in key areas that support educational development and academic attainment. No preparation is necessary; it is important that your son/daughter does not come to school anxious as no pre-learning or knowledge is needed to complete the tests. CAT has many uses and can help your son/daughter and the teachers to plan appropriately and set targets for the end of KS3 and also look towards predicting GCSE and IGCSE outcomes. After the assessment is finished, we will be in touch again with results and our plans, if any, for further follow up. There is no additional charge for this assessment, as it has already been paid for as part of the educational toolkit. If you have any queries or concerns, please contact the school. Yours sincerely

Ms Sara Clarke-Jones Head of Middle School
