PRE-LAB EXERCISES 1. Given that you have measured the displacement signal at a certain point in a vibrating system to be sinusoidal, with amplitude of 2 mm and a period of 0.015 sec. What would you expect the period and amplitude of the acceleration signal to be? You can assume that the acceleration signal is also purely sinusoidal. Recall that the sinusoidal displacement is represented by . )sin(tXx= 2. In our experimental setup, why do we place the LVDT at the tip of the beam? Would it be just as effective to place our sensor at some other point along the length of the beam? 3. Explain the function of the signal conditioner used in this experiment. What is the goal for which it is designed? 4. If there were fluctuations in the AC signal powering the LVDT, would this impact your results? Consider the possibility of low and high frequency fluctuations separately. 5. What are some other potential sources of error or uncertainty associated with the setup described in this experiment?
