About the CD

How to Use the Oracle9i: The Complete Reference CD-ROM


The CD that accompanies this book contains a special electronic Adobe
Acrobat pdf-format edition of Oracle9i: The Complete Reference. With this
electronic version, you can easily transport all of the valuable information
contained in the book on your PC while the printed version of the book
remains in your office or home.
I NOTE: To view the electronic edition of the book and other
documentation on this CD, you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader
program. If you do not already have it pre-installed on your system,
you may locate and launch rp505enu.exe from your CD to install.
Viewing and Navigating the Book
You can easily view and navigate specific areas of interest within the book
using the hyperlinked Table of Contents provided.
Viewing
1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD drive of your computer (if you have
not already done so).
2. Locate and launch the file Book.pdf from your CD drive. This displays
the books Table of Contents at left of screen and actual book pages
at right.
Navigating
1. To view a chapter, click the triangle to the left of the Part in which
the chapter resides. This displays all chapters in the selected Part.
2. Click the name of the chapter you want to view (displays first page of
chapter at right).
3. To view a section within a chapter, click the triangle to the left of the
chapter name (displays sections of chapter below chapter name),
and click the name of the section you want to view.
Searching
1. Choose the Search | Query option from the Edit menu.
2. In the Adobe Acrobat Search dialog box, click Indexes.
3. In the Index Selection dialog box, make sure the box next to
Oracle9i: The Complete Reference is checked. Click Add.
4. In the Add Index dialog box, highlight Index for Oracle9i: The
Complete Reference.pdx. Click Open.
5. In the Index Selection dialog box, click OK.
6. In the Adobe Acrobat Search dialog box, type in the text for which
you want to search.
7. Click Search (initiates the search).
8. In the Search Results dialog box, click the View button. This takes
you to the first instance of found text matching the search criteria.
Alternatively, you can double-click each occurrence of found text in
the Results field to be taken to a specific match.
Using the Code
The tables used in this book are available for you to access and use without
retyping! You can use these to easily work your way through the examples
and experiment with the many techniques illustrated in this book. Simply
locate and open Tables.txt. You can freely select, copy, and paste the
desired text from this file.
