    Definition: LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is a new 4G wireless broadband standard.

    LTE is still in its early days, but the advantages it proposes over existing wireless mobile standards like3G, WiMAX and GSM making an interesting enhancement if not replacement for these. LTE gives peak download rates of 100 Mbps and half that amount for upload. It also offers an improvement on latency. One of the most interesting things about LTE is that it is capable of working on new technology. This will give it a high penetrating power, higher than that of 3G, WiMAX and Wi-Fi, which all suffer from restricted hardware deployment. LTE uses radio waves, unlike 3G and WiMAX, which use microwaves. This is what causes it to work on existing hardware. This will also cause LTE networks to have better penetration in remote areas and to have greater coverage span. LTE and Voice Calls VoIP technology is bound to take over traditional PSTN and GSM for voice and video calls. Everybody will look for mobile VoIP to power their mobile handsets and smartphones while cutting down communication cost. Mobile VoIP faces the hurdle of connectivity limitations and pricing, like the small-range of Wi-Fi and high cost of 3G. WiMAX stands as a good candidate but suffers lack of support. LTE, with the qualities and potential it announces, can be foreseen to be the leading wireless standard for voice and video calls over IP.
