Features of Graduate School

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Fukui originated as Fukui Technical College, which was established in 1923 to train professional engineers deeply rooted in the regional industries and was launched as the Faculty of Engineering of the new university in 1949. Responding to the demands of the times and of the area in which it is located, the Faculty of Engineering has experienced expansion several times through reorganization, restructuring, and the establishment of the Graduate School of Engineering. Currently the faculty has 8 departments, which cover almost every field of engineering, and the Graduate School has 10 master degree courses and 1 doctoral degree course, making its scale the largest on the Sea of Japan and among the largest regional colleges of engineering in Japan. Enrollment in the 8 departments of the Faculty of Engineering is limited to 555 students, including transfer students, and to 253 students for the 10 master degree courses and 22 students for the doctoral degree course of the Graduate School. The education system of the Faculty of Engineering and Graduate School of Engineering is held in exceptionally high esteem. National universities are required to produce results in line with mid-term objectives and planning, and the University of Fukui received an evaluation of 7th among all national universities in Japan as its final assessment for the first-stage period of mid-term objectives and planning, from 2004 to 2009. Furthermore, evaluation of the educational and research activities of colleges and graduate schools was also carried out, for which the University of Fukui Faculty of Engineering ranked 4th out of the 50 engineering faculties, and the Graduate School of Engineering ranked 1st out of the 38 engineering graduate schools in Japan. The University of Fukui Graduate School of Engineering uses the motto, Aim to be an IMAGINEER: Engineers who make dreams into reality. In the location of Fukui, surrounded by the ocean and mountains, and abounding with nature, why dont you aim to become an IMAGINEERthat is, someone who will endeavor to research, enhance ones techniques, and lead Japan and the world?
