The International and Intercultural Education Scholarly Interest Group

Intercultural dimensions of collaborative research between teacher educators in Norway and Iraqi Kurdistan
The intercultural dimensions of international collaborative research in teacher education are discussed in relation to a research project carried out in 2010 2011 between Buskerud University College, Norway and University of Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan. The project focused on student-centred learning (SCL) in secondary schools in Iraqi Kurdistan and was funded by the British Council. The overall aim was to develop quality of teaching, learning and research in connection with school development and education for childrens rights and democratic citizenship. This involved focusing on issues of SCL, inclusive education, empowerment, intercultural competence, and exploring ways of developing joint research projects. The overall project consisted of two research groups, one focusing on human rights and one group focusing on SCL. Opportunities for intercultural learning arose in communication between teacher educators, and between teacher educators and secondary school teachers.
