The Positives of Reading

Children who are read to daily in the first five years of life are more likely to succeed in elementary and secondary schools compared to children who were not read to. Early exposure to reading increases childrens vocabulary and helps them with math as well as reading once they have started school. Children who are read to are also more attentive in school. Early reading can also help your child during adulthood.

Reading is Doable
Reading to your children only takes 10 to 30 minutes per day. Childrens books can be purchased at discount stores for example, the Salvation Army or The Goodwill store for less than $0.25 per book. Childrens books can be barrowed from your local library. Families can also acquire books from their local pediatric health care providers. Families can read the same book multiple times, because children enjoy hearing the same stories over and over again. Repetition also assist a child to understand words and helps them to build vocabulary.
