Stephanie Weisenburger Pitch Presentation Outline I. Seed Story a. Cat Island i. Mostly inhabited by elderly people and felines ii. Japanese island unharmed by tsunami iii. Food shortages were an issue iv. Fuel shortage prevented air travel, debris prevented water travel Research a. Food Shortages i. On Cat Island travel was difficult because of fuel shortages and debris ii. Fear of shortages caused people to buy excess food, ultimately leading to the shortage iii. Many of the cats on the island went hungry, they survived iv. One businessman, Soichi Sato, started a new seafood factory using alternative green methods to restore the fishing industry destroyed by the tragedy b. Religion i. Cats are considered good luck ii. There is a cat shrine on the island for a cat killed on accident iii. Cats are allowed to roam the island to protect it c. Festivals i. Fortune Cat Festival 1. People would sit at the food of the cats with moving arm that stood as a symbol of welcome. 2. The people would discuss their life struggles 3. The people would broadcast their issues and discuss solutions 4. Not all solutions were helpful One Minute Plays a. Ashley: Based on grocery store owner on Cat Island i. Middle-aged grocery store owner who is single and owns the only grocery store on Cat Island ii. Is trapped in the store and is afraid that it will be broken in to iii. Cannot get any more food to sell, so she might go broke iv. Wants a rich husband to take care of her

b. Brea: Based on the Fortune Cat Festival. i. Set on Cat Island after the tsunami has hit ii. The main character and his sister are orphans living with an elderly woman on Cat Island. iii. His sister takes a trip to Japan just before the tsunami hit and he hasnt heard from her iv. The fortune festival is where he says his peace and awaits news. c. Courtney: Based on Soichi Satos experience i. Set on Cat Island ii. Sato opens a new portion of his factory on Cat Island iii. He struggles to use his new alternative methods because of all the debris in the water iv. Ultimately he is able to restore fishing on the island and save the residents d. Rosie: Based on finding a new crazy cat lady on Cat Island i. Lost original crazy cat lady because she was really a man ii. Searches for a new one in the ruins of the earthquake iii. Finds new one. e. Michael O: Based on a man who believes he is a cat i. Lives in a human world ii. Believes himself to be a cat iii. Is confronted by societal norms that oppress his feline desires iv. Attempts to convinces others he is good luck f. Michael Q: Based on Cat Island cannibalism i. John and Milo the cat are in a bunker after the disaster ii. They search for food and are attacked iii. John considers eating Milo because he has no food g. Stephanie: IV. Production Concepts a. Our masks will play a major role in most of our plays. Namely the crazy cat lady mask b. Various lighting strategies, lights up on intense scenes, dim lights on intimate moments c. Scarves to symbolize water and waves to show the audience that the setting is an island d. Since each play is after the disaster has occurred, the actors will pretend they are maneuvering around debris on the island as we will have minimal props
