Deflection: Dis"lacin# $o%r &""onent's (ieces! cuuuuuuuuC Deflection is the act of forcing an opponent's piece to give (wdwd*iwd} up protection over something important, y deflecting it 70b0wdp1p} away from the target! This "important thing# might e a 6w0wgwdwd} s$uare or a piece needing protection! %ften a deflection 5dwdwdwdw} tactic is a forcing move &either a chec' or capture( of some &wdwdwdwd} 'ind! )ere *hite finds an opportunity to deflect the +ing!

Destroyin# the Defen+er E4am"le 1: 5rea6in# &"en the Enemy's 7in# (osition! cuuuuuuuuC Ci'e the tactical motifs efore it, learning to "destroy# your ((dw,wd+d} opponent's defensive position is an e0tremely valua le 70w0b$w0p} pattern! Generally, sacrificial ideas designed to create 6wdp0w*wd} access to the opponent's castled King position are on 51wdwdw-w} display *hen this tactical motif is referenced!

Though *e elieve our previous e0ample did 70pdwdp0p} display that tactics of the "destruction# nature are most 6wdpdwdwd} effective *hen you have more pieces around your 5dwdwdwdw} enemy's King than they do, emoving the defender is a &wdw/wd.d} slightly simpler tas'! Fou only need a clear target to attac'!

Remem er that the goal of the tactic is much more important than correct classification! Deflection: Generally used to descri e the act of ta#ing away a piece from guarding something important! Decoy: Generally used to descri e the act of ta'ing a piece a*ay from a certain area &li'e the outside passed pa*n techni$ues descri ed in Cesson 1E( or used to descri e the act of ringing a piece to a certain s$uare to ma'e a tactic possi le! *ttraction: Generally used to descri e the act of ringing a piece to a certain s$uare for a tactic against that particular piece!
