ЮНВТО – на службе туризма и Целей развития тысячелетия
Committed to Tourism, Travel and the Millennium Development Goals The 18th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly will
bring together tourism ministers and senior officials
THE DAILY OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY - Дневник Генеральной Ассамблеи from national tourism organizations, as well as public,
private and academic Affiliate Members
Astana, Kazakhstan, 5 – 8 October 2009
Tourism has been successfully developing in Kazakhstan in the recent years. We are
constructing modern highways and hotels, restoring ancient monuments within the
state-run program named “Cultural Heritage”.
Tourism has no borders, as it becomes a really global and large-scale activity. In this
connection, I would like to mention the Baikonur space centre that is used for space
tourism. Today, many countries gain huge profits from tourism industry, which is one
of the world’s fundamental economic achievements. The successful development of
tourism must not slow down even during the global financial crisis.
These days, a session of the World Tourism Organization General Assembly is taking

RoadmapforRecovery I believe that the most challenging problems of world tourism will be discussed here,
and the session will be eventful and fruitful.

Germany – the travel destination: more value and very affordable! Where you can explore history in the places where it
happened. Even today, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification, there are still reminders of this time: see
where the peaceful revolution began in St. Nicholas’ Church in Leipzig, take a guided tour along the course of the Berlin Wall
in Potsdam and visit the many museums devoted to East German history in Thuringia. Berlin, of course, is the number one
attraction. Retrace the footsteps of the past at famous monuments such as Checkpoint Charlie in Germany’s capital and one
of Europe’s most exciting and forward-looking cities. Modern history brought to life in Germany. Further information at

Tourism’s role in preserving diversity and fostering international understanding were at the centre of this year’s World Tourism Day Think Tank debates
around the 2009 theme “Tourism – Celebrating Diversity”. The Think Tank was the climax of the official World Tourism Day celebrations held in Accra,
Ghana, and brought together leading international experts, tourism policy makers and specialized media. The Think Tank was chaired by Hon. Mrs. Juliana
Azumah Mensah (M.P.), Minister of Tourism of Ghana and Mr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General ad interim.
Climate Change Response – “Sea l the Deal!” campaign at World Tourism Day 2009
The World Tourism Day celebrations presented
an ideal opportunity to rally support for the “Seal
the Deal!” campaign which aims to galvanize
political will and public support for reaching a
fair, balanced and effective agreement at the cli-
mate change summit in Copenhagen, Denmark,
in December.
