are not always led to a predetermined conclusion (Johnson, p 8, par 6) I li!ed this "uote because it helped remind me that teachers should not always pro#ide the answers $or students% sometimes it is better to show students multiple perspecti#es and let them decide $or themsel#es&#alue student thin!ing and input 'he chapter mentions the importance o$ choice and teaching our students how to thin! li!e citi(ens o$ a community )art o$ this is letting students ma!e up their own mind on #arious matters, rather than pro#iding them with an answer or in$luencing them with our own ideas *ig Idea +tandards ser#e to enhance education when used intelligently by educators +tandards can only lay a $oundation $or teachers about the !nowledge and s!ills needed $or students to be success$ul academically It is the teacher,s -ob to analy(e the standards and organi(e them in a way that can be communicated and re#iewed with students, and ensure both the teacher and the speci$ic students are being considered .nly the teacher can -udge the students le#els o$ abilities, etc in order to ma!e the standards meaning$ul and accessible /a!e a 0onnection I made a connection when I read about the #arious ways to ma!e social studies meaning$ul $or students I remember dreading my social studies lessons because they were so dull I can only remember reading a chapter and answering $ollow up "uestions .ccasionally we would ha#e a report on a president or another $amous $igure 1arely did my teacher as! our opinions on matters that pertained to the real world, or challenge us to consider di$$erent perspecti#e on an ongoing issue I can really appreciate how the chapter co#ers ways to challenge students to thin! $or themsel#es as a #alued citi(en, or integrate the sub-ect with other areas so it is not always about reading I thin! this sub-ect de$initely needs more real world application I !now that because o$ my #ery dull e2periences $rom childhood, I will do my best to create meaning$ul and engaging lessons $or all areas related to social studies
