Superstars!

October 2014

October
News
Dear Parents
and Families,
We have had an amazing start to
our third grade year! Thank you
again to those parents who have
volunteered or brought in
supplies to help our class stay
prepared.

First, I just wanted to fill you in

on what we have learned
throughout October.

Reading: Each week in

reading we focus on a
strategy and skill to help
us with our reading and
comprehension. We have
predominately focused
on authors purpose,
word relationships, and
nonfiction elements. We
have also discussed selfquestioning and how to
reread for clarification.

Math: Students have

mastered place value and
subtraction with
regrouping, and are now
beginning multiplication.
Science: We have
learned about the five
senses, including touch,
see, smell, taste, and
hear.
Social Studies: Students
have worked with maps
and practiced with
cardinal direction. We
have also learned about
the state of Nevada in
honor of Nevada day.
Writing: Students are
practicing with editing
and writing persuasive
Haunted House stories.

As you know, progress reports

were sent home this week. I
urge parents and families to
communicate any worries they
have about their childs progress

in my class. Infinite campus is a

great tool for parents to monitor
their childs grades and know
exactly how their child is
performing in each subject. I am
always available to discuss
grades and other concerns. Our
communication and partnership
will ensure your childs success!
I look forward to hearing from
you!
Thank you again for all of your
support at home. Should you
have any questions, please email
me at:

Sincerely,
Mrs. Davis

Multiplication!!!

AR/Reading
We have had some hard working
readers in our class who have
already graduated their AR level.
Our graduates so far are Grant,
Dylan, and Keana-Great job you
guys! Just a reminder, students are
supposed to read an average of 80
minutes a day in 3rd grade. That is
50 minutes during the school day
and 30 minutes at home.
Students should know which books
they need to read to fill in stars and
work towards graduating. Keep up
the good work 3rd grade!
Our upcoming reading stories for
November are:
Rosie, A Visiting Dogs Story, The
Stories Julian Tells, and The
Talent Show

We have officially started

multiplication! Many of our
third graders are super excited
for the challenge and we are
moving along wonderfully. So
far, Jaylen, Grant, and Dominic
have passed their multiplication
facts up to their 3s and Dylan,
Janae, Josh, Keana, Cheyenne,
Gerardo, Julius, Lexie, Sariah,
and Raquel have passed s! The
rest of the class has successfully
completed 1s and 0s. We will
continue to test every day and
further our progress. Practice at
home is always encouraged as
well.
