Reading
Students have been enjoying our study of mysteries.
They have learned many new vocabulary words that
you may wish to review at home: alibi, clue, crime,
detective, evidence, red herring, sleuth, suspect, victim, and
witness.
Your childs mid-year fluency (DIBELS) and reading
level (DRA) scores have been determined, and you will
receive the data at your upcoming conference. Most
students have shown considerable improvement in
both areas since the fall. Way to go!

Writing
The children are in the final stages of writing their
second personal narratives. Soon they will utilize a
scoring rubric to edit their work.
Mathematics
Our study of multiplication and division, including
lots of word problems, continues. We will have a x6
test on Tuesday.
Some geometry concepts have been introduced
through our Math Minute work. Students have learned
the definition of a polygon and the names of some
polygons: quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon.
Science
Weve been reading information in chapter 10. Some
vocabulary words addressed in that chapter include:
matter, mass, grams, and centimeters.
Social Studies
We are learning the history of the first Native
American tribes in Michigan and their way of life.
Spelling
Spelling tests will be taken in cursive for the remainder
of the year. The spelling lists, handwriting sheets, and
games can be found here.
